Free Gun Locks
In partnership with Safe Communities, SHPD is offering cable-style gun locks for FREE.
Safe storage of firearms is one of the critical ways that you can protect children, and loved ones who may be in crisis. If you do have a family member in crisis, some options for safe gun storage include:
Turn over firearms to a trusted family member or friend.
Contact a local gun shop to see if they are willing to store firearms.
Rent a storage facility and keep firearms there.
Reach out to your local police to see if they can take guns for safekeeping.
If it is not possible to get guns out of the house, secure unloaded guns in lockable hard sided gun cases or safes, and remove ammunition from the home.
